VIDEO_ENUGU SIT AT HOME BAN: GUNMEN ATTEMPT BURNING DOWN PINNACLE, GOVERNOR MBAH’S FILLING STATION
Enugu – The Pinnacle Oil and Gas filling station located at the Ugbo Okonkwo, Upper Chime Avenue part of New Haven, Enugu, was reportedly attacked by some armed men late Tuesday evening.
According to an eyewitness account, the men arrived in multiple tricycles pretending to be buying fuel before proceeding to spread some combustible substances they later ignited.
This was as they also released sporadic gunshots that sent many people, including motorists buying fuel, scampering in different directions for safety.Some armed policemen nearby who heard the gunshots were said to have promptly arrived at the scene to repel the attackers who fled upon sighting them.
The resultant fire which didn’t cause any significant damage was said to have been quickly put out by workers who used fire extinguishers to contain it before the arrival of the men of the fire service.While no one could say for sure who was behind the attack nor their motive, Pinnacle Oil and Gas belongs to the governor of Enugu state, Barr. Peter Mbah.
The governor had recently in a move that had been received with mixed reactions called off the weekly, Monday sit-at-home in the state originally imposed by the mainstream Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB.
IPOB had sometime in the past announced the suspension of the blanket exercise, only imposing it during the court appearances of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, or whenever they held their remembrance days.
However, the breakaway faction led by Finland-based Simon Ekpa who appeared more hardline in their position had continued to insist the sit-at-home stayed. In a recent video seen by Words and Shots, Ekpa threatened whoever would defy the order whenever it was imposed. However, when our reporter later visited the area, normalcy had returned as a detachment of armed security men was seen maintaining order.
