SỤRỤGAWA: EZE OSHIMIRI, IGWE PROF ONAH ENDORSES THE CONCERT AS TOOL TO PROMOTE IGBO LANGUAGE (VIDEO)

Enugu – HRH Igwe Prof Sir Chukwuma V. Onah, Eze Oshimiri of Ukwuoto, Edenu, Ede-Oballa in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State has firmly endorsed SỤRỤGAWA – 1st Igbo Language Concert being organized by Igbo Efula (Otu Asusu Igbo) as a veritable tool for the promotion of Igbo language.


The traditional ruler and university don made the assertion on Saturday in Enugu when a delegation from Igbo Efula (Otu Asusu Igbo) paid him a courtesy visit which coincided with the opening of his Enugu ‘Obu’ (palace).


While speaking at the occasion, Eze Oshimiri commended the organization for their steadfastness in the promotion of Igbo language:


“I commend Igbo Efula for your steadfastness in the promotion of Igbo language. As a traditional ruler, I appreciate your immense contributions in this regard and assure you of my support, in all ramifications.


“Promotion of Igbo language is a task which we must all support. Its unfortunate that many of our children don’t speak Igbo fluently. Therefore, your assignment is very important. Since our Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council has already endorsed the event, some days ago, myself and other traditional rulers in the state have no other option than to support him”.


Regarding his appointment as the organization’s patron, he stated that he accepted same wholeheartedly and was ready to be part of the organization’s crusade to promote Igbo language.
Earlier in his speech, Mazi Ikechukwu Oji, President, Igbo Efula thanked the royal father for always supporting the organization.


“Eze Oshimiri, we thank you for always supporting Igbo Efula. As an astute academic and a revered traditional ruler, we are proud to be associated with you.
“We found you worthy to be our patron because of your avid interest in the promotion of Igbo language and culture.
“Sụrụgawa, the first Igbo language concert is aimed at promoting Igbo language through promotion of the Igbo language industry. According to experts, a practical way of promoting Igbo language is by supporting the Igbo language industry, especially the Igbo entertainment industry”

The event was attended by a host of other dignitaries and traditional rulers including HRM Igwe Sir Ikechukwu Samuel Asadu (Eze Ogadagidi of Edem-Ani) , Chairman, Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council and HRH Igwe Herbert Ukuta (Agbarakata III of Igga, Uzo-Uwani LGA). A three man delegation also came from Abuja to represent Eze Sir Ibe Nwosu (Igbo I), Eze Ndigbo FCT.


Highlights of the occasion were the presentation of Igbo Efula’s letter of appointment as patron to Eze Oshimiri and his formal endorsement of the concert
Other members of the Igbo Efula delegation were Mazi Nnaemeka Ibe, Secretary, Igbo Efula, Mazi Osaji Greg Odiakosa, Chairman, Sụrụgawa Organizing Committee, Prince Jideofor Ngene (CEO, Prince Palace Hotels, Enugu), Barr Sylvia Abana, Lady Ndidi Ikeobi, Hon Mrs Ebere Omeje and Mrs Oluchi Agada.
