SELF DETERMINATION AGITATIONS SHALL CONTINUE SINCE GEN. BUHARI REJECTED DIALOGUE – ADEJUMO, AFENIFERE CHIEFTAIN
Chief Gboyega Adejumo, a chieftain of Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-political organisation, has stated that self determination agitations in Nigeria, including the Yoruba nation agitation, shall continue since the President, Maj. Major-General Muhammadu Buhari has rejected dialogue, as a means of addressing the political issues being faced by his administration.
Chief Adejumo made the assertion while speaking about the Yoruba nation rally held on Saturday, on Sunrise Daily, Channels TV current affairs program, this morning, Monday, the 5th of July, 2021.
“Self determination is the right of the Yoruba nation and all other indigenous peoples in Nigeria.
“It is supported by both AU and UN charters. In fact, the UN has several organs dedicated to the rights of nations pursuing self determination”.
He said that unlike his predecessors such as Obasanjo, who organized the Oputa Truth and Reconciliation Panel as well as the 2005 National Confab and Jonathan, who organized the 2014 Confab, “Maj. Gen. Buhari has rejected dialogue”.
According to him, “Buhari has two sets of laws. While he addresses Southern Nigeria agitators in the language they will understand, which is violence, he placates Fulani herdsmen, bandits and Boko Haram”
Adejumo stated that the Yoruba nation with a population of 60 million people in Nigeria and 20 million outside Nigeria, coupled with their contribution of about 65 of the country’s non oil revenue has all it takes to be a great sovereign state.
