RIFT IN S’EAST APC WIDENS AS SEN. KEN NNAMANI ACCUSES GOVERNOR UZODINMA OF COLONIZING THE PARTY IN THE REGION

Enugu: The rift in the South East caucus of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress, APC seems to have widened as several stakeholders are unhappy with the manner in which the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma,has been running the affairs of the party in the region, as leader of the party’s zonal caucus.

The latest complaint came from one time Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani who viewed as unhealthy, the role the Imo State governor, Hope Uzodinma, is playing in the affairs of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), former Senate President, Senator Ken Nnamani, has advised the Imo governor to desist from attempting to “colonize” the party, especially in the South East geo-political zone.

Nnamani gave this advice in Enugu on Thursday January 26, 2023, when he spoke on the current situation of things in the South East APC.

The former Senate President blamed what he described as the orchestrated “meddlesomeness” of governor Hope Uzodimma in the party especially in his political domain, Enugu state, saying that it is not unexpected, as according to him, the governor had attempted same in some South East states, including Anambra, but unfortunately failed in such mission.

Nnamani maintains, however, that Uzodimma will soon realize that the case of Enugu is different from his state, Imo.

Nnamani, in few words, advised the Imo State governor thus:

“It will be a grievous error on my part if l dare dignify governor Hope Uzodimma’s inordinate ambition to build a political colony in the South East.

“His meddlesomeness in Enugu politics is not unexpected. He tried such in Anambra and elsewhere and all ended in abysmal failure. It will not be long before he finds out that Enugu is not Imo”.

The Advocate reports that stakeholders of APC in the state have been at loggerheads with the state chairman of the party, Ugochukwu Agballah over some contentious issues for which they demanded his removal.

But the Imo State Governor, believed to be Agballah’s strong backer, was said to have  insisted that the state party chairman should be allowed to remain in office and perform his duties.

This appears to have emboldened Agballah who, in a statement in Enugu on Wednesday, threatened to expel Senator Nnamani and some selected party members for alleged anti-party activities.

The development has, however, caused serious division in the party as the Enugu stakeholders including Senator Nnamani and former governor, Sullivan Chime are not participating in ongoing campaigns by the party’s candidates for the February and March general elections.
