POLICE NAB ARMED ROBBERS AT CHIME AVENUE, NEW HAVEN, ENUGU


Enugu: Police officers from the New Haven, Enugu Police Division intercepted a robbery gang in front of New Haven, Primary School, Chime Avenue, Enugu around 8.40pm, Saturday night.
The three man robbery syndicate operating with a tricycle had just snatched a handset from a young man, at gun point, between the New Haven Health Centre and Primary School Bus Stop.
Unfortunately, for them, they ran into a police patrol team, who promptly arrested them after firing several shots into the air.
According to one of the robbery victims who spoke to hoo!haa!! News, three of them (young men) were strolling from Edward Nnaji Park to Primary School Bus Stop when they were intercepted by armed robbers on tricycle.
The robbers immediately snatched a handset from one of them, who was pressing his phone, at gun point.
While ccommending the police for their alertness, residents of the area decried the sudden spike of armed robbery there in recent times.
The police patrol team impounded the tricycle with registration number UWN 255 VJ.
According to a house wife, Mrs Juliet Oli, “New Haven which has always been known as the safest neighbourhood in Enugu metropolis is currently being ravaged by armed robbers operating on tricycles.
“Recently, they have robbed several supermarkets along Chime Avenue, including Frank Supermarket and 234 Supermarket, by Fourth Dimension Bus stop.
“Two weeks ago, they raided several shops at Ugbo Okonkwo, shooting a Middle aged man in the process”
The spate of armed robbery incidents involving tricycles led to the recent ban on tricycles in Enugu metropolis from 9pm till dawn.
