Arrested Drug Dealers are released by the Police after two days – Hon Igwim, IMHA
Dr. Ahoma Mbanuzuru, a Consultant Public Health Physician at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State has averred that the menace of Methamphetamine (Mkpuru Mmiri) in the South-East region can best be tackled if the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) cuts off the supply chain.
He made the assertion this morning, Monday, 29th November, 2021 while speaking as a guest on Sunrise Daily, Channels TV Current Affairs Program.
“The menace of Methamphetamine (Mkpuru Mmiri) in the South-East region can best be tackled if the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) cuts off the supply chain.
“The drug does not drop from the sky. There are people trafficking it into the country. If the drug is not available, people will not take it. There are also reports that it is being produced locally in the South-East”
According to Dr Mbanuzuru, regardless of its source, the menace of Mkpuru Mmiri in the region can best be addressed if the NDLEA cuts the supply chain by smashing the drug syndicate.
Also, in his own contribution, Hon Arthur Igwim, Member representing Ideato North Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly stated that the Mkpuru Mmiri scourge persisted in the region because “drug dealers arrested get released by the Police after two days”
According to him, “the youths need empowerment to take them off drugs. When I engage them, they ask me what they will start doing if they leave drugs”
