The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened to continue the ‘every Monday’ sit-at-home protest, starting from August 23.
Earlier, the group had suspended the weekly protest intended to prevail on the Federal Government to release their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is in detention over allegations bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism.
IPOB, while suspending the protest last week, said the exercise would only hold on the days Kanu would appear in court.
However, the Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, said they might continue the exercise, starting from next Monday.
He said, “IPOB is no longer forcing anyone to stay at home, but our people are voluntarily doing so to show how they feel and value our leader. That will make us to continue with the exercise from next week.
“If we begin again, even an ant will not be allowed to be seen on any road or street in Biafra land in any of the protest days, unless that idiot (defaulter) has written his or her will.”
This is despite the fact that several South East Governors had held meetings with IPOB and other Biafran agitators, in a bid to make them see reason to shelve such sit at home exercise which was causing undue hardship to the people of the region without in anyway having any influence on the Federal Government or the law court’s decision to free Kanu.
Inside sources said the Governors parties with various amounts of money to placate the agitators.
Yet, there was violence in various parts of the South-East yesterday during the suspended Sit at home exercise.
In Imo State, 9 oil workers from Lee Engineering Limited working on Assa North Gas project at Assa Egbema Field, lost their lives in an attack by gunmen allegedly enforcing the Sit At Home . Imo State In Aba, several persons were wounded and in Enugu, there were gunshots and pandemonium. There was palpable fear in the air, those who opened their shops earlier closed their shops in the afternoon for fear of being attacked.
