INTERIM GOVERNMENT AND TINUBU’S SWEARING IN: I WAS MISQUOTED- ISIGUZORO, OHANAEZE SECRETARY GENERAL

… Insists Ndigbo not part of any plot for “interim Government” while urging judiciary to conclude presidential election petitions before swearing in

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has stated that he was misquoted regarding his statement about the alleged plot for an “interim Government” and the swearing in of Nigeria’s president elect, Senator Bola
Ahmed Tinubu.

For the avoidance of doubt, he repeated Ohanaeze’s position on the matter:
“From all indications, the 2023 elections were neither free, fair nor credible. The electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, must be held accountable for failing Nigerians, who put all their trust in them.

Again, we are proud of our brother and son, the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi for the paradigm shift he has brought to the Nigerian polity through the Obidient Movement. Suddenly, LP, “ a party that has no structures” within months has become the albatross of the older more conventional parties like APC and PDP. Indeed, he has shown that “ a New Nigeria is POssible”. Therefore, we totally support his efforts to reclaim his mandate through legal means.

In view of the fact that Ohanaeze Ndigbo received credible insider information that some people are about to set some Igbo leaders up, including Mr Obi himself, so as to link them to the said plot for “an interim Government” as a reason for incarcerating them and “taking them out of the scene”, we hereby reiterate unequivocally that Ndigbo are not part of any alleged“ interim Government” plot. We are equally glad that Obi has openly distanced himself from any such plot, re-emphasizing his belief in the Nigerian judiciary and urging his followers to do same.

Ndigbo are “endangered species in Nigeria” and never again will Igbo people be used as sacrificial lambs as “we were used in 1993 during the Abiola saga, where a lot of Igbos were bullied, maimed, killed and their properties looted…”

Ohanaeze notes that the proponents of the interim government are already setting the stage through the “systematic burning of Igbo-populated markets in Lagos (President-elect’s state) and Borno (Vice President-elect’s state) and promotion of hate campaigns against the Igbo, these are castles built on quicksand and Igbos are wiser and sophisticated.

Finally, Ohanaeze supports the call by a legal luminary and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Chief Olisa Agbakoba that “the presidential election petition cases should be concluded before the swearing in date which is May 29th, 2023, as a way of forestalling any interim Government plot.

As such, whosever emerges victorious from the ongoing legal battle, wether it is LP’s Peter Obi, PDP’s Atiku Abubakar or APC’s Bola Tinubu can then be sworn in, without any encumbrances, as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
