INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS FAIL IN SOUTH EAST, EVEN BANKS REMOVE NIGERIAN FLAGS IN COMPLIANCE WITH SIT AT HOME
Enugu: The Sit at home ordered by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to frustrate the October 1 Independence celebration has succeeded since, for the first time, the South East did not join the rest of Nigeria in the annual event.
The pro Biafra group also ordered that Nigeria flags be brought down, today, October 1st, being Nigeria’s Independence Day.
Through out the South East, the usual March past and fanfare marking the celebration was absent. All the streets were abandoned, from Enugu to Abakaliki to Owerri, Umuahia and Awka, the story was the same
Major roads and streets in all the state capitals were deserted just as stadiums and other Central venues for October 1st parades and March past.
As seen in the pictures Ecobank Abakaliki, Ebonyi State complied by removing the Nigeria flag, just as Oko Federal Polytechnic in Anambra.
Not even the huge presence of the police across the States could give residents the courage to violate the order as violent destruction has recently been used to visit violators of the sit-at-home order.
The South East seems to be evolving into a country within a country with IPOB calling the shots. Recall that the weekly Monday Sit at home initially ordered by IPOB still holds despite cancellation by IPOB
