I’LL NOT ALLOW SETTLEMENT OF HERDSMEN IN ENUGU STATE UNTIL ITS CLEAR THEY NO LONGER POSE THREAT TO SECURITY – NWEKE JR

Enugu: The Enugu State Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Mr Frank Nweke Jr has emphatically stated that, if elected, his Government will not allow the settlement of Fulani Herdsmen in the state until it was guaranteed that they no longer posed a threat to security of lives and property in the state.

Mr Nweke Jr made the assertion on Sunday night on a Twitter space while commenting on the rising case of insecurity in the State.

Recall that there has been an increase in attacks by herdsmen in the state. Just last week, scores of unarmed citizens were butchered by suspected Fulani Herdsmen in Eha-Amufu, Isiuzo LGA of Enugu State.

According to him:

“I will not allow the settlement of Fulani herdsmen anywhere in our State until it is clear that they, under the guise of herding, no longer pose a threat to lives, farmlands and properties. Banditry and terrorism will not be tolerated in anyway.”

Reactions from a cross section of citizens of the State showed that they were impressed with the statement from the Frontline Governorship candidate since they felt that the menace of Fulani Herdsmen in the state needed to be tackled aggressively.

In the words of Rev Cletus Ibeh, a concerned resident of Enugu, “As much as peace and co-existence is preferred, we cannot keep losing the lives of our people to bandits posing as business men”
