Former military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Rtd (IBB) has again defended his annullment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential.
Years ago, the Nigerian President, General Muhammadu posthumously recognized Chief M. K. O. Abiola, adjudged Winner of that election as President, with all the accruing rights and priviledges in recognition of the fact that the June 12 election was adjudged the fairest and most credible in the annals of Nigerian history.
For the same reason, Buhari shifted the annual Democracy Day celebration from May 29 to June 12.
However, in an interview on Channels Television on Monday August 16, IBB shamelessly insisted that he did the right thing which was in the best interest of Nigeria, as a country.
He said;
“It is a decision we took. I had to take that decision. I did that to the best of my knowledge, in the interest of the country.
“I did the right thing. I can sit back and say some of the things I said manifested after I had left. We had the coup, and that coup lasted for five years.”
Unfortunately, IBB failed to tell Nigerians why the annullment of June 12 election was justified.
