GOVERNOR MBAH PRESENTS N521.6BN 2024 BUDGET TAGGED BUDGET OF DISRUPTIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH



Enugu – Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has presented the budget for the 2024 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
The budget, aptly named the “Budget of Disruptive Economic Growth,” is a colossal ₦521.6 billion aimed at propelling unprecedented growth and transforming the state’s operational landscape.

● Total Budget: ₦521,561,386,000.00
● Capital Expenditure: ₦414,334,120,000.00
● Recurrent Expenditure: ₦107,227,266,000.00
● Internally Generated Revenue Contribution: ₦252,789,000,000.00
Sectorial Allocation:
● Education: ₦134,587,982,647.78 (33% of the budget)
● Law and Justice: ₦1,225,643,498.00
● Regional Development: ₦1,144,550,000.00
● Social Services: ₦182,149,510,648.00
● Health: ₦21,777,421,000.00
● Infrastructure (Roads/Maintenance): ₦82,535,147,361.03
● Water Sector: ₦28,970,250,000.00
● Agriculture: ₦25,184,154,671.81

Governor Mbah emphasized the budget’s pivotal role in setting the stage for the state’s ambitious economic goals, with a vision to elevate Enugu among the top three in GDP and eradicate poverty.
In a bid to diversify revenue sources, Mbah highlighted achievements from the 2023 amended budget, including the launch of a modern water scheme, road construction projects, social welfare expansion, and strategic initiatives in agriculture. The Governor underscored the importance of private sector investment and the need for infrastructural development to drive sustainable growth.
Notable Achievements from the 2023 Amended Budget:
■ Ultramodern water scheme at 9th mile producing 70 million litres
■ Contracts awarded for road construction and rehabilitation
■ Expansion of the social register to 260,000 beneficiaries
■ Accumulation of 300 hectares for commercial farmers
Enugu State investment roundtable attracting economic players
■ Construction of 260 smart model basic schools and health centers
■ Introduction of the DRS for enhanced security
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Uche Uwgu, commended Governor Mbah for meeting constitutional obligations and assured swift consideration, acknowledging the record-breaking nature of the budget and expressing confidence in the Governor’s capacity to deliver on the set objectives.
