The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC has stated emphatically that for the NLC, no election took place.
According to him, the Prof Mahmood Yakubu led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC “should have gone ahead to announce whatever they wanted instead of this insult on Nigerians”
Ajaero said this while contributing virtually to AIT’s program on the election, Nigerian Election Situation Room.
According to Ajaero:
“No election has taken place. They should have announced what they want instead of calling Nigerians out for this insult.
“In Owerri East, where I voted and also monitored elections, elections held without hitches. Now, INEC is saying it has canceled the election there.
“Even in Big Brother Africa, they vote before announcing a winner. INEC should stop insulting the sensibilities of Nigerians.
“Personally, I will lead a protest to Owerri that they have never seen before.
On waiting for results collation and announcement to be completed, he said “No need waiting for them to announce cooked results from a faulty process. If you enter a bus and the bus changes to go in the wrong direction, you can’t allow the bus to keep going.
“INEC has done worse than SARS, INEC Chairman should go, Nigerians should then find more reliable people to conduct a transparent election.
On leading a protest to occupy the International Conference Centre, ICC, the Labour leader said: “NLC is an organized movement, I will liaise with my executives on this.
“In my polling unit I have the results and you are announcing something else then you are a thief and should be behind bars. INEC connived with security agencies primitive corruption without finesse, the Labour movement won’t allow this.
On the issue of Governors not being able to deliver their states to their preferred presidential candidates, Ajaero said:
“Saying “delivering” makes the Governors to act as returning officers. Wike went to collation centres to interfere with the electoral process. Before the election, he was already saying who would win and who would not.
The issue is not who delivers, the men you mentioned expired, it’s any issue of the process and the peoples will.
“For instance, Governor El Rufai of Kaduna State was popularly elected by his people eight years ago but his people no longer have confidence in him and new leaders have emerged. That is the essence of elections.”
