FINALLY: EKWEREMADU SUPPORTERS UNVEIL 2023 GUBER CAMPAIGN GROUP
*Enugu* : Senator Prof Ike Ekweremadu, CFR, PhD, former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate at the weekend, received a Door to Door Campaign 4 Senator Ike Ekweremadu 2023, one of the campaign groups pushing for his 2023 Enugu State Gubernatorial Project.
In his speech, Sen. Ekweremadu commended members of the group for their commitment.
“I have long been aware of this group. You have visited me and called on me to run for the governorship of Enugu State. You have shown commitment to this cause and what you believe in.
“The only way to explain that commitment is that you want to see a good society that delivers good governance to everyone, no matter where one comes from. Your interest is to see 21st Century governance that works for everyone.
“I also thank you because I share in your interest. If everything goes well, as I believe it will, by God’s grace, you will not be disappointed. You are going to be proud of this engagement”
Earlier in his welcome speech, the Director General, Door to Door 4 Ike Ekweremadu 2023, Sir William Nwabueze stated that the campaign group was formed by patriotic citizens of Enugu State, both indigenes and non indigenes with the singular aim of compelling the three time Deputy President of the Senate to take Enugu State to the next level with his magic.
“Your Excellency, you are not just the Senator representing Enugu West, you represent the entire Enugu State and indeed Ala-Igbo.
“As shown by the banner, we have over there, your projects are spread across the entire Enugu State, not just Enugu West Senatorial Zone.
“Door to Door Campaign 4 Senator Ike Ekweremadu 2023 was started so that we can take the good news of your candidacy from Door to Door, all over Enugu State until we get to Lion Building, come May 29th, 2023”
The highlight of the occassion was the presentation of branded pro-Ekweremadu suvenirs produced by Val Ogakwu Couture as souvenir.
Some members of Sen. Ekweremadu’s entourage included Rt. Hon Dennis Oguerinwa Amadi, Member representing Udi/Ezeagu in the House of Representatives; Chief Cletus Akalusi, State Secretary, PDP; Ozo Okey Ozoani, Zonal Chairman, PDP, Enugu West; Hon Chief Afam Nnaji, Former Commissioner for Youths & Sports, Enugu State; Hon Chief Frank Anioma, Former Chairman, Nkanu East LGA.
Other members of the group who were on ground to receive Sen. Ekweremadu and his entourage include Coordinators of the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, Representatives of women groups, Muslim Community, Arewa Community, Abia State Association, etc.
This development appears to have finally put paid to speculations regarding the much touted Gubernatorial aspirations of the political titan.
While everyone, including his adversaries accept the fact that based on his intimidating resume as a “Presidential candidate material” from Enugu State, he has all it takes to transform the state.
However, the debate generated by his speculated interest in being the next Enugu State Governor has centred on the contentious issue of zoning.
Some believe zoning should be between the three Senatorial Zones, others believe it should be between the socio-cultural zones. Yet, others believe that the 2023 Enugu State Governorship election should be based on merit, moreso since the position has rotated across all the Senatorial Zones and there was no existing agreement in the state.
In his own remarks, Chief Val Ogakwu, CEO, Val Ogakwu Couture, the official designer for the group and coordinator for Udi LGA asserted that, “With Ikeoha, we are sure of a better Enugu State come 2023 as he’s experienced, a household name, ready for assistance 24-7 to the less previledged and always ready to hear, listen and solve people’s problems.
“At this time merit must come first before zoning as we want the cap to be worn by whom it fits best because Ikeoha’s achievements can never be over emphasized”.
