Enugu – The Enugu State Government has launched the Distress Response Squad (DRS), a Hi-Tech driven specialized unit aimed at curbing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

The initiative was officially inaugurated by Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, during his working visit to Governor Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah at the Government House, today, 22nd August, 2023.

The launch marks the commencement of the pilot phase of the program, with the DRS set to immediately assume its duties in boosting the security of the state. To further enhance the unit’s capabilities, plans are underway to procure 100 vehicles within the next two months, facilitating comprehensive coverage of strategic flashpoints across Enugu State.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the DRS vehicles are outfitted with advanced security surveillance cameras boasting facial and license plate recognition capabilities. These cameras are seamlessly integrated into the wider security network, connecting to CCTV cameras stationed at the command base located at Government House Enugu.

As a testament to their commitment to public safety, the Enugu State Government has introduced a dedicated emergency hotline, 117, that residents can dial to swiftly report any security concerns.

In line with his avowed commitment to stamp out insecurity in the State, Governor Mbah emphasized that under his watch, Enugu State remains steadfastly dedicated to eradicating insecurity. He encouraged all citizens to continue their daily activities without fear, assuring them that their security is guaranteed.

With the establishment of the Distress Response Squad and its state-of-the-art technology, Enugu State takes a bold stride towards creating a safer environment for its residents, setting an example for proactive security measures in the region.
