ENUGU EAST SENATORIAL ELECTION: UPSET WITH GOVERNOR UGWUANYI LOSING TO OKEY EZEA

Nsukka – An upset is in the offing with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State contesting under the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP allegedly having lost the Enugu North Senatorial election to Barr. Okey Ezea of the Labour Party, LP.

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Enugu North, while Barrister Okey Ezea is of the Labour Party, contesting for the same position.

Election results collated from various polling units indicated a landslide victory for the Labour Party candidate, Barrister Ezea (Ideke). In some of the Polling Units which results were sighted, the margin of defeat by the LP candidate against the PDP candidate (Ugwuanyi) is as high as 70–80 votes.

The pattern is similar in Nsukka, Orba, Lejja, Aku, Enugu-Ezike, Opi, Ibagwa, Uvuru, Ugbene Ajima, among other areas.

The PDP candidate, Ugwuanyi, was said to equally been defeated in his own ward, Orba.

There were however skirmishes in some parts of the senatorial district as thugs tried to disrupt voting. In the end, the results were not tampered with.

It appears that Ugwuanyi’s last minute minute ditching of the LP Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi in preference for Alh Atiku Abubakar of the PDP really turned his people, who overwhelmingly supported Obi, against him.

However, the official declaration of the result by the INEC returning officer is still being awaited.
