THE DREAM LIVES ON AND OUR HOPE WILL NEVER DIE:: Being Statement by the Edeoga/Nwokeabia Campaign Organisation on the judgement of the Supreme Court on the 2023 Governorship Election In Enugu State.
1. The Edeoga/Nwokeabia Campaign organization has received with mixed feelings the judgement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on the petition of the Labour Party and its candidate in the March 18, 2023 Governorship Election in Enugu state, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga.
2. The journey which started over twenty months ago, was essentially anchored on the dream and vision to change the narrative of governance and move our state, and by extension the country, to a better place.
3. We disagree with the judgment of the court, but accept it nevertheless as coming from the highest court in the Land. Our belief is that the goal of elections and the judicial process should be to arrive at the same popular choice of the electorates.
4. We thank the great people of Enugu State, our numerous supporters and other Compatriots all over the World for their steadfastness, resilience, solidarity and enduring love. We thank the workers, traders, students and all men and women of goodwill who supported us, for their prayers and sacrifices.
5. We enjoin our people to accept the judgement and remain peaceful and law abiding. Clearly, the character and prospects of politics in Enugu State have been changed by this campaign for good, forever. The dream lives on and our hope will never die.
6. To further grow and deepen our democracy, we urge the National Assembly to overhaul the Electoral Act particularly in resolving all electoral disputes before swearing-in presumed winners. (so as to maintain a level playing ground and avoid undue advantage).
7. We wish Enugu State well under the new administration of Governor Peter Ndubisi Mbah.
