ENUGU 2023: BATTLE TO STOP EKWEREMADU MOVES TO ABUJA AS HIGH POWERED ENUGU PRO-ZONING DELEGATION STORMS PDP NATIONAL SECRETARIAT

Abuja: Following last Friday’s unveiling of Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s Enugu Governorship manifesto titled, “A Pathway To A New Enugu State” and the announcement of Hon Engr Ogbonna Asogwa as the Director General of the Ikeoha Campaign Organisation, the political landscape in the state has become electrified.

Consequently, on Tuesday, 15th of March 2022, a high powered delegation was sent by the Enugu State Government to visit the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP at Wadata Plaza, Abuja.

The delegation included past and present State Chairmen of the party in Enugu State such as the Pioneer PDP Chairman, Enugu , Chief C.O.C. Egumgbe, and other former party Chairmen; Chief Engr Vita Abba OON and Chief Ikeje Asogwa as well as the current State Party Chairman, Chief Augustine Nnamani.

Their mission was simple and straight; to brief the National Chairman H.E. Iyorcha Ayu and the National Secretary Sen. Samuel Anyanwu about the Zoning agreement, which they alleged, had been in existence in the State and had fostered peace and growth in Enugu State; a PDP State.

They said their visit became necessary because some elements within the Party in the State (Ekweremadu) wanted to cause confusion due to their selfish interest by claiming that an agreement does not exist even he was allegedly a signatory to the said agreement.

Recall that the Ikeoha Campaign Organisation had issued a statement, a day earlier in which it alleged that the said zoning agreement was forged. The statement signed Hon Engr Ogbonna Asogwa, Director-General of the organization stated that, “no amount of lies, forgery and persecution would stop Ekweremadu from contesting the 2023 Enugu State governorship election”.

With the release of the 2023 Elections Timetable by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, more intrigues and powerplay are expected in Enugu and other PDP controlled states, in the days ahead

For now, analysts sue for Peace, violence free and issues based campaign in Enugu State where aspirants’ manifesto and approach to provision of good governance shall be discussed alongside the burning issue of zoning, even as the Ekweremadu group alleges persecution and threat to life.
