BUILDING EBONYI AIRPORT AMIDST POVERTY: SAM AMADI GIVES UMAHI ECONOMICS LESSONS

Prof Sam Amadi has taken to his Twitter account to express his puzzlement over the decision of Ebonyi State Governor Dave Umahi to construct an airport in the state whereas his state was plagued by multidimensional poverty, being the poorest in Southern Nigeria and one of the poorest in Nigeria.

The Associate professor and Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts did this through some rhetorical questions and a simple analogy:

“The best economics is to put milk in the mouth of babies” – Unknown economist

Ebonyi state has one of the highest poverty rates in Nigeria. -NBS

Ebonyi has the best airport in Nigeria.- NCAA

Who can explain the common sense of this?”

Some Netizens replied as follows:

KINGS MD @KINGSEUSTACE, “In Nigeria, a politician would owe civil servants and pensioners, but construct a bridge with over-inflated budget; many Nigerians would be clapping for him/her and use the structure as index of performance.

They are enabled by the inept citizens.”

Atomic@ atomic19721187, “Have you seen this?

Nedjo@EzeChin53125, “The airport may not generate income for it’s servicing.
Lack of human capital development has made people that will use the airport poorer.
No viable industries except the industrial recruitment of political TAs, SAs, commissioners and other political jobs.”

Calabar Boy @kennograph, “Ebonyi State airport may thrive because most of us from Northern and Central Cross River State will be using the airport thereby increasing its traffic. I’ll also be willing to relocate from OAU, Ile-Ife to Alex Ekweme University because of the infrastructure in Abakaliki”
