Abuja: Bruce Fein, an associate Deputy Attorney of the United States and Constitutional law expert who flew into Abuja,Nigeria’s capital to see the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been barred from seeing him by officers of the Department of State Security (DSS).
Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the lead Counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has said that the Department of State Services, DSS, stopped the detainee from seeing his lawyers on Thursday.
Ejiofor, in a statement on Friday, narrated that the secret police denied himself and other lawyers including “IPOB’s Attorney in the United States, Bruce Fein”, from meeting with Kanu.
Ejiofor described the action of the DSS as a violation of the order of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja which ordered that the DSS should allow Kanu’s lawyers access to him twice a week. The lawyer had previously alleged maltreatment by the DSS during the routine visits.
Ejiofor’s statement on Friday was titled, ‘Update On Yesterday’s Visit Being 2nd Day Of September, 2021.’
It read, “Yesterday (Thursday’s) Court ordered visit to Our Client- Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was aborted by the officials of the State Security Services on a reason we find extremely ridiculous.

Deputy Head of the directorate of State. (DHOD) of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) had earlier issued a statement stating Mr Fein was in Nigeria since, “The bid to solidify the legal fences and excellence is necessary to ensuring a full protection and the rights of leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and further securing his release in no distant time.
Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s vision of principle of self-determination is profoundly ambodied in Article 1 of the chater of the United Nations. The DOS therefore holds dear the aforementioned chater and drawn in consonance with the famous quote of independence by Thomas Jefferson…. that “we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.” These desires are made manifest in Biafrans and leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through a great deal of perseverance and tenacity with an irreversible believe that these must surely and imminently be achieved.
