BOTCHED 2023 ELECTIONS: PROF YAKUBU SHOULD BE TRIED AND JAILED LIKE A COUP PLOTTER – GAZALI, NETIZENS

A debate is currently raging online regarding what punishment ought to befall the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmud Yakubu following the terribly botched 2023 General elections under his watch despite having a spending N300bn on the conduct of the polls.
This followed a proposition by a concerned Nigerian and a popular social media influencer, Shehu Gazali Sadiq, that Prof Yakubu should be tried like a coup plotter and jailed for being responsible for the ongoing political crisis in Nigeria.
He asserted this via a tweet, Shehu Gazali Sadiq @Shehusky:
“Mahmoud Yakubu is literally responsible for the political crisis in Nigeria today. He collected over N300bllliion to conduct election but failed woefully to do the right thing. He should be prosecuted as a coup plotter in the courts and jailed for life. Nonsense.”
Dr Fayinka Johnson @dr_fayinka tweeted:
“Ballot coup should definitely be treasonous. You can’t just keep wasting productive years of the youths by helping to install criminals who came to steal, kill, and destroy. The Judiciary system is now on trial; democracy must not be killed off in Nigeria.”
Atomic Fusion @atomic_Fusion01 tweeted:
“I heard the clown and his criminal agency has listed some people to be prosecuted for electoral crimes. He even had the guts to omit his (own) name”
Green Purple Rave @greenpurplerave tweeted:
“Mahmoud Yakubu should technically be in jail .Why is he not questioned by EFCC to account for the money he claimed to have spent.”
Jac Ankoh @jacbillions tweeted:
“What do you expect from a man who is said to have bribed the sum of 3b to retain his position as Inec Chairman, he was a fraud waiting to happen”
Muan’mbe @mbube boy tweeted:
“I don’t think mahmood could have done anything without Buhari’s instructions. As long as we continue to blame mahmood, Buhari shouldn’t be left out”
Vangalie (olowoejanla1) @olowoejanla1 tweeted:
“I support you my brother
That’s the best thing”
The debate is getting interesting but if other INEC officials involved in electoral malpractices are prosecuted, should Prof Yakubu be above the law? However, our legal luminaries should state the law that should be used in prosecuting him.
