AUSTIN NDIGWE, SELF ACCLAIMED EZE UZU AWKA’S NEW YAM FESTIVAL STOPPED BY POLICE ON STATE GOVERNMENT’S DIRECTIVE

Awka: Officers and operatives of the Anambra State Command of the Nigerian Police Force, on Saturday, dispersed guests who had gathered at the behest of Chief Austin Ndigwe, self acclaimed Eze Uzu (traditional ruler) of Awka.
Recall that the Anambra State Government had issued a statement last week, warning Ndigwe to stop parading himself as the traditional ruler of Awka kingdom.
In the statement, Chief Paul Nwosu had warned Chief Ndigwe against holding “the new yam festival or any other traditional functions reserved for the Eze Uzu”. According to the statement, the State Government recognizes His Majesty Igwe Gibson Nwosu as the Eze Uzu of Awka.
The statement also stated that the State Government would not fail to deal with him decisively.

However, the Nigerian Police acting in line with the State Government’s directives swung into action by sealing Ndigwe’s “Palace” and dispersing guests who had gathered for the ceremony, in clear contravention of the earlier mentioned directive.
The contention about the Eze Uzu of Awka stool has Conte for sometime now despite State Government’s recognition of Igwe Gibson Nwosu as the authentic monarch.
