APWEN ENUGU’S INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO TCN, NEW HAVEN, STATION IN LINE WITH APWEN COMMITMENT TO FEMALE ENGINEERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT – ENGR DR OKAFOR
Enugu: Engr Dr. Cecilia Okafor, MNSE, the Chairman, Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Enugu Chapter, has stated that her executive was committed to the professional development of female engineers in Enugu.
The accomplished engineer made this known when a delegation from her association went on a courtesy call /industrial visit to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), New Haven, Enugu Sub Region, Enugu on Thursday, 26th January, 2022.
While warmly welcoming the delegation comprising both field practicing engineers, researchers, some in academia and student engineers, the Sub-Regional Manager, Engr. Charles Iwuamadi MNSE expressed his joy at the visit and the interaction which he said would enhance the professional capacity of the female engineers with regards to the power engineering industry. “I welcome you all on this courtesy call /industrial visit. At the end of the day, I believe your professional capacity, especially with regard to the power engineering industry would have been enhanced”.
He also appreciated the APWEN Chairman, Engr Dr Cecilia Okafor, as a seasoned Engineer, who has made a mark in engineering practice. Engr Iwuamadi and his team then took the APWEN delegation on a tour of the 330KV and 132kV Plant/Switch Yards.They also visited the 330kV and 132 KV Relay and Control Rooms.
According to Engr Okafor, “the visit was really a workshop on Power Systems and Equipments. Our student members were not left out, we always carry them along since one of our main objective is to mentor a new generation female engineers, thereby increasing the numerical strength of female engineers”
Other members of the APWEN delegation were Engr. Dr. Chioma Ugwa, MNSE, Engr Dr Nneka Ejike Ugwu, MNSE , Engr. Clara Anyanwu, MNSE, Engr Georgina Igboekwu Boi, MNSE, Engr Chigozie Achi, MNSE, Engr Ukamaka Onoh, MNSE and some others, including the student Engineers.
