APWEN ENUGU HOLDS 2022 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SCIENCE AT MIKETRY COLLEGE, TRANS EKULU, ENUGU

Enugu: The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Enugu Chapter held the 2022 International Day of Women and Girls in Science with students of Miketry College, Trans Ekulu, Enugu on Friday, 11th February, 2022.

the APWEN Chairman Enugu Chapter, a seasoned practicing professional, Engr. Dr. Cecilia Igbonakalum Okafor, emphasized that the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) since inception has been on the front line advocating for ‘Equity, Diversity and Inclusion’.

“This is evident from the numerous programs APWEN Enugu has embarked upon, like Career Talk Program which emphasizes that Engineering is also for girls.

“It is based on our conviction that a girl child can also study engineering and make a successful career in the Engineering Profession.

Continuing with her talk, she said:

“In line with the STEM program, APWEN advises girls to study subjects that lead to Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics which will enable them study engineering thereby closing the gender gap in Engineering Profession.

Engr. Dr. Okafor also explained that APWEN, through her Town and Gown Program, was networking female graduates and students engineers to Engineering Industries where they are needed.

SheEngineer, Invent it and Build it, is also another program use in closing gender gap and so many other programs that are on going, advocating for ‘Equity, Diversity and Inclusion’ which is the bedrock World Development Agenda 2030 – that Nobody should be left behind, by allowing equal opportunity and empowering them to participate on an equal footing in development interventions that concern them.

The Vice Principal Mr J. Okafor and the Proprietor, Mrs Ofodile V. N. as well as some teachers welcomed the APWEN Enugu team on behalf of the college.

Those in the APWEN team include Engr. Dr Chioma Ugwa, Engr. Ifeyinwa Oduah, Engr. Dr. Uju Abonyi and Engr Ukamaka Onoh.
