Abeokuta: Dr Olusegun Obasanjo, former President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has told a delegation of Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who came to consult him in the build up to the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for this weekend that the Party’s only hope of regaining power next year was through Peter Obi.
According to an insider, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, accompanied by his Benue State counterpart, Governor Samuel Ortom had come to present their Rivers State counterpart, Governor Nyesom Wike to Obasanjo, as the preferred choice of the PDP Governors.
However, the octogenarian did not disappoint his fans. In his usual blunt but comical manner, after hearing them out, he reportedly told them; “Wo! Are you guys not in this country? Una no see say Peter Obi has become a movement? Peter Obi is PDP’s only hope of regaining power next year”
Expectedly, they were all downcast at the “bad news”.
“The looks on their faces after OBJ told them the raw truth speaks volume. Donald Duke looked like an embittered housewife not ready to give peace a chance. Seyi Makinde was finding it difficult to comprehend the hard truth served to them. Wike couldn’t believe his ears—he was perplexed. Ortom managed to put on a smile.
On his own part, Obasanjo didn’t give a hoot about their obvious and unbidden disappointment. To him, he had done his job as an elder. PERIOD!
He no even send anyone, with his characteristic body language of: “If you like don’t visit me again”.
