Enugu – The DPO Nenwe Division, DSP Nduwuisi Anosike on Saturday sensitized some citizens with his jurisdiction who flouted the movement restrictions stipulated by the Enugu State Government, in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The DPO and his team accosted men drinking in a Beer parlour at Ukete, Odume.
However, instead of confronting them with the full weight of the law at his disposal, Anosike chose to lecture them on the COVID-19 pandemic, stressing the importance of adhering to the Government’s Health guidelines.
He dwelt on the Message of “Staying at home to stay Alive”.
Commendably, Anosike has always been an advocate of Community Policing, not excessive use of force.
His the announcement of Restriction of movement or partial Lockdown by the Enugu State Government, Anosike has organized several COVID-19 sensitization tours, mostly with his own resources in the various communities under his Watch.
This is in sharp contrast with his colleagues else where, who would have opted to a show of force, leading to fatalities.
Most likely, if Cpl Ozor and his colleagues had adopted this approach, the mayhem and fatalities recorded at New Parts, Nkpor, Idemili North, Anambra State wouid not have arisen.
Indeed, the Enugu State Police Command deserves commendation for the conduct of officers like DSP Anosike, that has resulted in the reduction of citizens’ harassment under the guise of enforcement of COVID-19 restriction of movement to the minimum.
